Vitra DAW Eames Plastic Arm Chair

Vitra Eames DAW Chair (DAW = Dining Height Arm Chair Wood) was produced in collaboration with Zenith Plastics for the Museum of Modern Art in New York’s Low-Cost Furniture Design Competition and was the first industrially manufactured plastic chair. Charles and Ray Eames combined the organically shaped seat shell with a four-legged wooden base. This mix of plastic and wood lends the classic design a certain warmth and cool appeal. The seat shells can be fitted with seat cushions or full upholstery in a wide selection of fabric colours, enabling a multitude of individual configurations. Vitra DAW with its classic design is suitable for residential or commercial environments. Looks equally stunning combined with an old vintage table as a new modern one. As from 2024 the seat shell of all the Eames Plastic chairs are made from recycled post-consumer plastic. The recycling material stems from Germany’s ‘Yellow Bag’ (Gelber Sack) collection of household waste, which primarily consists of used packaging. Utilising this material instead of conventional plastic generates fewer climate-damaging emissions and significantly reduces energy consumption. (Colour samples available on request)
